eBike Law Hub

Safety basics

A fast e-bike is still a vehicle in traffic and a guest on shared paths. These habits stack with knowing your local laws — they are not a substitute for reading official rules.

Helmets

Wear a properly fitted helmet every ride. Class 3 and younger riders often have legal helmet requirements — even when not required by law, helmets reduce serious head injury risk.

Visibility

Use front and rear lights at dawn, dusk, and night. Bright clothing and reflective gear help drivers see you in shade, rain, and urban glare.

Brakes and maintenance

E-bikes are heavier and faster than many acoustic bikes. Check brake pads, tires, and bolts regularly. Learn how your motor cut-off and battery behave before an emergency stop.

Speed awareness

Assisted speed makes it easy to approach corners and mixed traffic faster than you expect. Slow early, especially on multi-use paths with pedestrians and pets.

Riding legally

Read posted trail rules, yield to pedestrians, and follow traffic laws on the street. When in doubt, dismount or choose a quieter route — it protects access for everyone.

The right gear helps you stay visible and meet common equipment expectations. Each card below is a slot for future curated picks (e.g. affiliate links) — none yet.

Helmet

Use a properly fitted helmet every ride. Many states require helmets for certain ages or for Class 3 — check your state summary. Even when not required, helmets cut serious head injury risk.
